The Mission

The Delta Sigma Theta Life Development Center is the result of a unique partnership with the Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter, the Mayor's Office, the Los Angeles City Council, and the Department of Aging.

The Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter dedicated the Delta Sigma Theta Life Development Center in September 1987, and through federal and city grants provides  meals, home services, social and recreational activities, transportation, health, counseling, nutrition and health education seminars for senior citizens. Delta Sigma Theta Life Development Center provides congregate meals to seniors who have become “regulars” at the center and also delivers meals to the homebound.

Thanksgiving morning is a special time when Los Angeles Alumnae Chapter members and community volunteers perform the duties of the "meals on wheels" program and delivers meals to the homebound seniors.

OASIS

(Older Adult Services and Information System)

An adjunct to the Life Development project is the Delta OASIS Program (Older Adult Services and Information System). Delta’s OASIS is located in Macy^«s Department Store of the Baldwin Hills Crenshaw Plaza in Los Angeles.

The Mission

OASIS is a national not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to enriching the lives of mature adults. We strengthen communities by providing lifelong learning and service opportunities that inspire mature adults to pursue vibrant, healthy, productive, and meaningful lives.

This Delta project has been designated as a model program by the City of Los Angeles. OAISIS publishes a catalog of local programs three times a year to its members. Some classes are free, others are offered at very modest cost. Formats range from discussion series to one-time lectures and cultural events outside the center.
